Humour · Travel · Chance and destiny
An innocent question. A journey to the other side of the world.
Simón wanted to find out whether we really make our own decisions. The experiment ended up sending him to Australia.
The story
It all began with a seemingly innocent question: if you could go back to the exact moment when you made a decision, with the same memories, desires, fears and circumstances, could you choose differently? Simón decides to find out.
First, he takes a different route for no reason. Then he orders food he doesn’t like. Later, he hands a few decisions over to chance and eventually uses a quantum random number generator. It gives him a seven. Not long after, he is travelling to the other side of the world.
Along the way come Elena, a yellow tray, a telescope that causes far more trouble than its price could possibly justify, a tiny country lost in the Pacific, and a pig named Mercedes. Everything has an explanation. But the more Simón tries to discover whether our decisions are truly free, the harder it becomes to tell the difference between causality, chance and destiny.
And somewhere in the middle of all this, there is Elena: a woman who makes her own decisions, has her own reasons, and is not particularly interested in becoming a philosophical demonstration inside somebody else’s life.
A story of travel, absurd humour, science without the technical jargon, and mature romance about the small decisions that take us very far and the coincidences that start to look suspicious when enough of them pile up.
